If you'd ask me, I would give up everything.
You would take it all and still prefer to walk out.
I had hated him for some reason, from the day I met him. Now that I was his girlfriend, nothing seemed to add up. I had no idea how I was in love. Is it real? I mean the possibility of true love is one in one billion-trillion- whatsoever! Had I really found mine?
'No, on a real note, it seems alright Sarah' I was speaking on the phone. ' Still, something seems to be missing from the scene.'
Sarah was absolutely in giggles. 'Miss, Over thinker. Chill. Nothing is wrong. Just enjoy the honeymoon period of your love.'
'Honeymoon, my foot. Got loads of work piling up!Oh and by the way I am coming home this weekend. Will see you then.' I clicked the phone before her goodbye. Basketball right, I thought tying my lace.
The heads of feminine gender never rests in peace. The whims and fancies of why's and why not's always stirs thoughts in otherwise empty heads of our clan! Sometimes a blessing, but mostly a curse. Nothing seemed to set my heart at peace today.
Except his arrival.
For when the calls came, I was at the basketball court. Three minutes later, with my frustration mounting up due to all the missed baskets, he stood at the other end, grinning like he always did.
I thought it was my dream. Did nearly seem that way. The hunk was home!
I jogged up to him. One quick grasp of hand and I was in his arms.
'What? When did you come here?' I quipped.
He let me go and silenced me. Rummaging through his stuff, he finally pulled out something. I was dying to know what it was.
He showed up two bars of chocolate. 'Join me, may be?' I nodded my head and took one. Like an idiot I was munching on that, unaware of his stares. Food over Romance, any given day, especially to drive depression of missed baskets.
'So this is your new hideout?'
I smiled. He knew it. How could he not know? 'Yes, this abandoned court! I cannot carry the lake everywhere. So this is my hideout near college. The lake at home'
I paused and he nodded in affirmative.
I gave a thought and then asked, ' Wait a minute. How did you know this place? I never told you!'
He smiled, the ever genius smile that he gives off when he really feels proud about his stupid accomplishments. Like finding my hideout. The sheepish child in him, whom I loved to bits!
He adjusted his fake collar and stood on a small wall nearby, beaming in pride. 'Wouldn't I know?' I no longer bothered. It didn't matter. He was there and that mattered.
'So what is up? Were you free or did you miss me too much?' I winked. You ought to enjoy being in love. After all, how long does the feeling last?
He made a face. 'Nah. Wanted to play basketball.' He went over and led the game.
I watched him move. Like I did ever since I was a kid. Sometimes with anger, sometimes with fear, sometimes hatred, sometimes jealousy, sometimes anxiety.
But today, Love.
It might have been a while, after which Ned threw the ball over my face. 'Enough of dreaming', he yelled. 'Come here with the damn ball.'
I was annoyed. How dare he throw it at me. I went in all fury and probably the next hour passed with both of us tossing the ball here and there, making faces, scoring baskets, annoying each other, his winks and my absolute disaster sport skills.
'I give up' I said panting for breath. Its been ages since I played and he definitely had better stamina then me.
He was still on the ground. ' I tell you, you have absolutely lost your skills. God knows what you do these days.'
He was right and I made a glum face. He moved on,' And nope, I am not going to baby sit for the poor sport skills.'
I grabbed a drink and nodded. ' I don't expect you to do that. I need to start practising everyday now. I'm becoming a lazy lump these days.'
Ned giggled. 'Good that you realised, it would have sounded rude had I pointed out.'
I stretched a bit, trying to relax myself. The sun poured down the court and I saw our shadows.
Ned chose to break the silence. 'So', he started,' Yes, I have come over to your city, just a few errands to run and I am staying at a mate's place.'
I adjusted the last strand of hair that was left out. 'Nice. I am heading home this weekend. Got some works to do.'
'Cool, might be accompanying you mostly. Mom isn't around and I have got some serious decision making to do Ann.'
'Okay.' I retorted absent-mindedly.
'Okay is what you say miss?!' What's up with you, you look lost. '
'Nothing. We'll sort this weekend. Nothing primarily important.'
Ned sighed. 'Women' he muttered.
'Yeah, Men' I thought.
'Mind if I ask you to come along to grab a bite ?' Ned questioned.
I straightened up. 'Wow', I thought. 'Like a dinner date?!' I asked looking at him in all expectations.
Ned laughed. 'Don't expect me to be fancily dressed up in black, holding champagne and planning surprises though. I am literally stinking right now. The maximum I could do now is take a shower, change into clean clothes and of course, give you time and company for dinner.'
I relaxed again. No draping clothes. No Oh-what-am-I- going-to-wear dilemmas. No Oh-my-God type expressions.
'That time would suffice. I need to clean myself up too. Don't expect much from my end too.' I winked.
'Right' he said, finally getting up.
Hand in hand, wrapped together by destiny perhaps, we walked down the lane.
Probably eternity had to be beckoned. Rest seem fickle.
